QuickLens: A Toolset for UI Exploration

This talk presents a macOS App that I’ve been developing for many years now. It is a set of tools for exploring the UI and doing things like:

– Sampling colors and maintaining palettes
– Measuring distances and angles
– Doing real-time measurements of distances and bounding boxes
– Setting up screen-wide guides
– Taking screenshots and capturing videos
… and much more.

The talk will focus on the design principles I adopted for an app like this and combining that with live demos. I am the sole developer and designer of this app along with the website, icons, and other artwork.

Key Takeaways

1

Knowing the features of the QuickLens toolset.

2

Applying it for everyday Design tasks.

3

Learning the principles of building visual power tools.
